When nasty weather is in the making, the Storm Prediction Center will often issue mesoscale discussions to describe that impending weather threat. This is especially true when there is the potential of severe thunderstorms that can produce strong straight line winds, large hail and tornadoes. While mesoscale discussions are not created strictly for aviators, they can be very useful to highlight an impending severe weather threat evolving over the next several hours. In this workshop we'll take a quick look at what these discussions might mean for the pilot during a preflight briefing.
